House of Yin Caretaker

Licensed Massage Therapist

Yoga Instructor

The Cliffs Notes on Jackie’s career reads that since graduating the Florida School of Massage in 2009 she has held a consistent private practice, spent a decade practicing bodywork in a physical therapy clinic, became a yoga instructor, completed an aromatherapy training, opened House of Yin in 2017 and is currently practicing here, and is also now within the educational programs at The Barral Institute to receive certification as a visceral manipulation therapist.

Now, let’s make this relatively brief… and in my own voice 🙂 Hi! I’m Jackie (she/they) I started my somewhat eclectic working career with the good folks of Gainesville at Gainesville Health and Fitness Center, a choice that would keep me rooted with them in one way or another from 2005-2019. Solid company. Within those years I also spent time working through B.A.S.S. as a behavioral analyst assistant for people living with disabilities, and helped to provide respite care for their families. Having grown up alongside a dear brother with autism and other disabilities, providing care in this way felt very aligned.

In 2009 I graduated from The Florida School of Massage and started my first job as a massage therapist working at ReQuest Physical Therapy. Here I worked alongside specialists to aid in the pain relief and/or rehabilitation of clients with acute injuries, various pathologies, chronic pain, pre and post-operation, post-radiation and pregnancy. This sort of medical massage modality continues to bolster my practice as I inhabit it today.

2012 brought me a movement modality in yoga, learning from Melissa Montilla of Kardiya Yoga. Various forms of yoga and movement, breathwork, Yin yoga, restorative and meditative practice are all part of the well that I draw from when sharing with and helping clients.

2017 was when I opened House of Yin. It is my truest passion project, and continues to be made possible by the beautiful folks who host their own practices at our shared space on Northwest 6th Street.

I’ve developed a deep interest in genuinely understanding what is happening under the skin in our bodies. This interest has lead me to two, week-long dissection courses on un-fixed (no chemical treatment) cadavers (trust me, it’s very special) hosted by Tom Myers of Anatomy Trains. I’m also currently within training at The Barral Institute, learning how to effectively touch and manually “speak the language” of the organs. It’s profound work and has become my current fixation.

I enjoy gardening. My movement practice is pole dance. I have cats. I binge watch Hells Kitchen with my boyfriend. I’m Libra sun, Libra moon, Scorpio rising.

My hope and intention with bodywork is that through all these facets, I can provide something cohesive, helpful, and maybe even artful. I’d love to share it with you!
